President Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, has confirmed a significant increase in the number of arrests being carried out by the office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In an interview on Wednesday, Homan said the number of arrests for June and July was tracking at approximately 1,500 per day, a record level for the agency.
Homan confirmed the month of June had “the highest numbers of arrests in the history of the agency of ICE and July’s tracking even beat that.” Homan further indicated that the progress of ICE would continue. “We’re hitting all cylinders now,” Homan said.
Homan spoke about the recent funding that had been approved by Congress and the monumental task that faced the Trump administration after the lax border policies of the Biden administration allowed an unprecedented influx of illegal crossings.
“Since we’re fully funded, we just got to keep going,” Homan said. “I know that this administration was put under enormous pressure as a result of the previous administration letting in tens of millions of people … we had no idea who they were.”
After implementing policies that directly countered those of the first Trump administration, President Biden’s own advisors warned the situation at the U.S. Souther border could result chaos and create a humanitarian crisis.
Biden’s actions included the implementation of a 100-day pause on deportations, ending construction of the border wall, and suspending the “Remain in Mexico” policy President Trump put into place during his first term in office.
According to ICE data, approximately 350,000 people have been deported during the fiscal year beginning in October, 2025. During the month of June, the agency averaged 1,437 per day. The number has increased to 1,593 so far in the month of July.
