In 2024, the initial Iowa caucuses will fire a shot across the political bow of the GOP and establishment politics, as President Donald Trump is set to likely win the first Republican primary contest of the year.
The Hawkeye State’s caucuses will be the first test of voter turnout and support for the 45th president’s candidacy to retake the White House this year. If the latest polling is any indication of how the caucuses will go down on Jan. 15, President Trump is in a comfortable position to mop the floor with his political opponents.
According to InsiderAdvantage, Trump has a 32-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) among prospective caucus-goers. The double-digit gap is no small feat, considering the fact that DeSantis, at this time last year, was considered Trump’s biggest prospective competition in a 2024 race.
However, since announcing his presidential bid in May 2023, Gov. DeSantis has seemed unable to harness forward campaign momentum. In fact, the latest poll from Echelon Insights capturing nationwide GOP primary data revealed that DeSantis had fallen to third place in his candidacy, sinking below former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Trump reigned supreme in their findings with a crushing 70 percent of the vote, which is a 60-point lead on Haley.
In Iowa, Trump has also been leading consistently in other polls, holding a 34-point lead over DeSantis in a Fox Business poll, a 36-point lead in a CBS News poll, and a 37-point lead in a poll sponsored by Iowa State University.
The president will spend more time in the Hawkeye State in the leadup to the caucuses, which are only days away.
