As Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the suspension of his 2024 presidential campaign and instead endorsed former President Donald Trump, a list of GOP members and political figures reacted to the news on social media.

DeSantis released a nearly 5-minute video on X (formerly known as Twitter) stating that he would pull his from the GOP primary nominee ticket just two days before the New Hampshire elections on Tuesday. While some congratulated the Florida governor on his campaign run, others had called for momentum to continue behind Trump.

Political commentator Megyn Kelly stated that not only is DeSantis a “great leader” and “class act,” but she hopes to see him find “a way to try again in 2028.”

Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donalds had called for voters to “unite behind Donald J. Trump and Make America Great Again,” noting that it was the “right decision by Governor DeSantis.”

“Thank you, Governor. Classy, patriotic move. Republicans, let’s unite around @realDonaldTrump and bring this country back! To all my friends who supported DeSantis, I’m sure this is a tough day, but tomorrow let’s work together again to defeat the corrupt left. #MAGA2024!” lawyer and RNC member Harmeet Dhillon tweeted.

Actor James Wood, who has previously shown support for Trump, called DeSantis’ speech “honest, straightforward, and to the point,” emphasizing how “Republicans MUST unite to sweep the Biden catastrophe from the White House and send the woke grifters of the left back to their rat’s nests.”

Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, who had previously endorsed DeSantis, stated that “America has missed its best chance to return to greatness,” thanking the Florida governor for “stepping up” and “giving it” his all.

“Welcome Home, Ron! It’s great to have America’s Governor back onside. #Trump2024,” Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz posted.

Former GOP North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn tweeted, “MAGA Trump or Nothing,” in response to DeSantis’s video.

“Great move by Governor Desantis to drop out and rally behind President Donald J. Trump! Republicans must unify behind Trump and focus all our resources on DEFEATING THE DEMOCRATS,” Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene stated.
