David Perdue says he would not have certified 2020 election results if he were governor

Georgia gubernatorial candidate David Perdue, whom President Trump endorsed earlier this month, has stated that he would not have certified the 2020 presidential election results if he were governor at the time.

“Not with the information that was available at the time and not with the information that has come out now. They had plenty of time to investigate this. And I wouldn’t have signed it until those things had been investigated, and that’s all we were asking for,” Perdue told Axios.

Instead, Perdue claims he would’ve called for a special session of the legislature to “protect and fix what was wrong for the January election,” as he advised Republican Gov. Brian Kemp to do at the time. However, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the special session would result in “nullifying the will of the people.”

Former Senator and then-candidate Perdue launched his bid for governor earlier this month. Hours after announcing his gubernatorial bid, Trump announced his “Complete and Total” endorsement of Perdue as a challenger to incumbent Gov. Kemp.

“Great to see that David Perdue is running for Governor of Georgia. He is a Conservative fighter who isn’t afraid of the Radical Left, and is the only candidate in Georgia who can beat Stacey ‘The Hoax’ Abrams in November,” Trump wrote in his Save America PAC.

“Brian Kemp has failed Georgia,” Trump added. “Kemp has been a very weak Governor—the liberals and RINOs have run all over him on Election Integrity, and more. Most importantly, he can’t win because the MAGA base—which is enormous—will never vote for him. We need strong leaders who will fight, and time is running out!”

Support for Perdue soared after voters became aware of the Trump endorsement revealing Trump’s influence on voters, an InsiderAdvantage poll suggested.

“In this many years of polling, I have never seen any other individual endorsement move as many points in a single survey,” Chairman of InsiderAdvantage Matt Towery said. “There have been some instances where I encountered substantial movement based on an endorsement in a Democratic primary by former President Obama, but never to this extent.”
