DeSantis calls for workers to be ‘liberated’ from wearing masks

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., came out swinging against mask mandates on Wednesday during a “Vacation to Freedom” press conference, which touted Florida as a bastion of individual liberty and freedom for those seeking a place to travel to “experience freedom.”

During the press conference, DeSantis attacked the decision of employers who force workers to wear masks despite declining Covid cases across the country, calling on big corporations and hotels to “liberate your employees.”

In a follow-up statement posted on Twitter, Gov. DeSantis further said, “Too many businesses, particularly corporate chains, force their employees to wear masks all day. This is unfair to employees, who should have the same choices as everyone else. It’s past time for these workers to be liberated from corporate forced masking policies.”

For many Americans, masking up for work is part of their typical workday. However, Gov. DeSantis is no stranger to making waves or going toe to toe with the Biden administration’s Covid-related mandates and regulations.

Recently, Gov. DeSantis slammed Joe Biden for banning monoclonal antibody treatment in Florida. As reported by RSBN, DeSantis stated, “Floridians have benefited from the state’s treatment sites, and their access to treatment shouldn’t be denied based on the whims of a floundering president.”

Further, DeSantis pulled no punches when he responded to the federal government’s refusal to send disaster relief aid to Florida following devastating tornadoes in January. “We urge FEMA to reconsider its decision,” Gov. DeSantis stated on Twitter. Floridians shouldn’t be punished for a disaster outside of their control due to White House politics.”

During the “Vacation to Freedom” press conference, DeSantis discussed freedom in Florida, “You can make your own decisions about what you want [to do] or not do… We’re not doing any restrictions,” he said, according to the Florida Phoenix.

Gov. DeSantis’ call to unmask workers is a welcomed concept for many employees who must wear cloth or paper masks all day during working hours. It remains to be seen whether corporate businesses and hotels in Florida will heed the governor’s call for liberating their employees or not.
