Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump.
The measure, approved earlier this month by the Republican-controlled state Legislature, designates the facility as “Donald J. Trump Palm Beach International Airport,” according to WPTV.
The airport, located in West Palm Beach near President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, is a major transportation hub in South Florida, serving millions of passengers each year and supporting both tourism and business travel. Originally established in 1936, the airport is among the busiest in the state.
The law is expected to take effect later this year, after which state and local agencies will begin implementing the name change.
The decision follows a separate move by Florida officials last year to approve a site in downtown Miami for a future presidential library honoring Trump.
Eric Trump, son of the president, applauded the act in a post to X.
“Palm Beach International Airport is now officially…. “President Donald J. Trump International Airport!” Proud to have played a small role in making this happen. Huge thanks to @megforflorida, @GovRonDeSantis, @JamesUthmeierFL, and the overwhelming majority in the Florida House!” he wrote.
“Florida is honored to be home to this landmark tribute to President @realDonaldTrump,” the Florida GOP added on X, sharing a photo of a sign at airport stating, “Welcome to the new President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
The FAA told ABC News in a statement, “Changing an airport name is a local issue and the FAA does not approve airport name changes. However, the FAA must complete some administrative tasks to include updating navigational charts and databases.”
