Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis received a standing ovation at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference last month for encouraging Americans to “put on the full armor of God” to fight against the left, the Washington Examiner reported.
“It ain’t going to be easy. You got to be strong,” DeSantis said about the uphill battle against the radical left. “You got to put on the full armor of God.”
“You got to take a stand, take a stand against the Left’s schemes,” the governor continued. “You got to stand your ground. You got to be firm. You will face flaming arrows but take up the shield of faith and fight on.”
DeSantis ended his speech promising to “hold the line” and “fight” in Florida.
“So I look forward to joining with you in the battles to come,” DeSantis added. “I can tell you that in the state of Florida, I’ll be holding the line, I’ll be standing my ground, I won’t back down, and I have only begun to fight.”
Exemplifying some of the ways he has “put on the full armor of God” himself to combat the left’s narrative, DeSantis discussed Florida’s response to the Black Lives Matter riots that swept the nation last summer, according to the Daily Wire.
After witnessing the riots that took place in Minnesota and many other states, DeSantis “made a decision…that, that would not happen in Florida. We were not going to let our cities burn down.”
“I also proposed that our legislature pass, and I signed a few months ago, the strongest anti-rioting, pro-law enforcement legislation in the country, which basically says in Florida, we are not going to let any local government defund the police,” the governor continued. “We’re also going to make sure that people who engage in mob violence are held accountable.”
DeSantis also addressed the dangers of corporations possessing too much power, especially when it threatens individuals’ freedom of speech.
“As conservatives, we have to advance public policy that elevates the freedom of the individual over the freedom of the corporation. And that’s what this fight is about. Do we want individuals to be able to speak? Do we want to support that freedom or do we want to support the freedom of massive monopolies to censor views they don’t like? I know which side I stand on. I’m for the average American and the average Floridian who’s trying to fight back against big tech and make their voice heard,” he said.
DeSantis has recently become a top contender for the 2024 GOP nomination as he was even ranked ahead of President Trump in one straw poll conducted by the Western Conservative Summit last month.
Nevertheless, a poll, conducted last weekend at CPAC in Dallas, ranked Trump as the top choice for the GOP nominee for 2024 with 70 percent of the vote and Gov. DeSantis was ranked second with 21 percent of the vote. The other 19 potential GOP contenders only topped at one percent.
Trump has teased he would consider DeSantis as a running mate if he chooses to run in 2024.
Although Trump has yet to officially announce whether he will run for president in 2024, he did say he has made up his mind about running for another term in an interview with Sean Hannity. He will likely wait until after the 2022 midterm elections to reveal his decision.
