After 17 years, talk show host Don Lemon has been terminated by CNN, the company revealed on Monday.
According to CNN Business, CNN CEO Chris Licht revealed the company’s decision to part ways with Lemon in a statement, stating, “Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years.”
Licht closed his message by wishing Lemon well and saying that he “will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”
Despite what appears to be a touching farewell, Lemon moved to Twitter to announce that his departure from CNN was not mutual.
“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN,” Lemon explained, adding that after nearly two decades, he “would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
Lemon stated that his abrupt departure demonstrates that there are “some larger issues at play” as the corporation failed to provide him with “any indication” that his time at the network would end.
