State Sen. Doug Mastriano, R-Pa., will sit for a voluntary interview before the Jan. 6 Select Committee, following his move to provide the panel with requested documents, according to his lawyer, Tim Parlatore, in a statement obtained by Politico.

Parlatore further stated that the Jan. 6 Committee had “agreed to forego a formal deposition” for Mastriano.

In May, Sen. Mastriano recently obtained the Pennsylvania gubernatorial nomination for the Republican Party, following a glowing endorsement from President Donald J. Trump.

“There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for Election Integrity than State Senator Doug Mastriano,” Trump wrote.

Mastriano recently won the Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial primary race.

The highly-partisan Jan. 6 Select Committee has been slammed by the 45th president, who referred to the panel’s investigation in a 2021 statement as “a cover-up for what took place on November 3rd, and the people of our Country won’t stand for it.”

President Trump has also strongly contended that had House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., heeded his warning to beef up security at the U.S. Capitol ahead of Jan. 6, the media-labeled “insurrection” would never have taken place.

“There would have been no January 6, as we know it, if Nancy Pelosi heeded my recommendation to bring 10,000 Soldiers, or the National Guard, into the Capitol. End the Unselect Committee January 6th Witch Hunt right now,” he said.

In March, CBS Pittsburgh reported that Mastriano was subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee in February and asked to provide documents related to information about alternate Electoral College electors.

Mastriano is a strong Trump ally, and CBS further reported that he allegedly organized trips via bus to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Receipts for the bus charter were provided to the Jan. 6 Committee, as well as other related documents and communications, according to the Politico report.

Politico also cited the fact that Mastriano is one of many Trump allies who the Jan. 6 panel has targeted. In May, Jan. 6 Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson announced that GOP Reps. Kevin McCarthy, Scott Perry, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs, and Mo Brooks had been subpoenaed for deposition testimony.

The Jan. 6 Committee announces ongoing subpoenas in the investigation surrounding the “insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol.
