Special counsel John Durham on Thursday indicted the principal source for the widely-discredited “Steele dossier,” which formed the basis of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax, on five counts of lying to the FBI, as reported by the New York Post.
Russian-born Igor Danchenko, who reportedly was the primary source of British spy’s Christopher Steele salacious dossier, was charged with five counts of lying to the FBI.
According to the indictment, Danchenko lied about the Trump campaign’s alleged cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as the principal source of the widely-debunked Steele dossier — whose primary source now appears to have been a longtime Clinton aide Chuck Dolan.
The Steele dossier provided the basis for the Obama administration’s Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court’s issuance of a spy warrant in October 2016. This is what the FBI used as its reason for surveillance of the Trump campaign in the final days of the 2016 election and during Trump’s transition to the presidency.
In September, the Durham probe also indicted Michael Susan, the Perkins-Coie attorney whose firm represented the 2016 Clinton campaign. Perkins-Coie retained Christopher Steele and Fusion GPS for the Trump surveillance.
Danchenko served as a fellow at the Brookings Institution, a Washington-based think tank with strong ties to the Clinton family. During Danchenko’s tenure at Brookings, he worked alongside Fiona Hill, who would later serve as a member of President Trump’s National Security Council and play a crucial role in Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, praised Durham’s decision “to hold people accountable who did wrong.”
He reportedly told Fox News, “So, I’m actually encouraged that we’re actually going to hold people accountable who did wrong and put our country through this three-year ordeal that was based on garbage dossier and the garbage information that Sussmann took directly to the FBI.”
