FBI sources have revealed there is insufficient evidence to prove that the infamous Jan. 6 attack on the capitol was ever the result of an “organized plot,” current and former law enforcement officials reportedly told Reuters last week. There was no proof that Trump supporters or militia groups had plans to take anyone hostage, or have any “serious” plans to do anything once inside the Capitol.
Reuters reported a former senior law enforcement official stated “Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases. Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized.” He emphasized “there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.”
Although the report suggests the Proud Boys and other far-right groups such as the Oath Keepers may have aimed to break into the Capitol, there was “no evidence that the groups had serious plans about what to do if they made it inside.”
Earlier this month, the Justice Department gave specific numbers as to how many protesters were arrested. Out of more than 570 individuals held in pre-trial detention, 175 defendants were actually charged with “assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees.”
More than 55 defendants were charged with “using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer,” and only 40 have been charged directly with conspiracy — though stopping short of more serious charges such as “racketeering” or “seditious conspiracy.”
Thousands of Trump supporters showed up to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 to peacefully rally in support of Trump and protest the 2020 presidential election results that they believed to be “illegitimate” and conducive of questionable election integrity.
The events that unfolded stoked a series of actions taken by lawmakers and other government officials against President Trump to continually suppress voter fraud suspicions casted in the 2020 electoral process. Democrats presented articles of impeachment that never moved past the House, but more recently they threatened “sedition charges” against Trump supporters. No such charges were ever filed or presented.
Shortly before the report, a House select committee launched an investigation to determine whether or not President Trump is guilty of instigating the Jan. 6 “attack.” Since that day, critics and some members of the mainstream media irresponsibly placed blame on Trump supporters, calling them “insurrectionists.” Joe Biden, already at the center of controversy and criticism, has gone on record to call them “domestic terrorists.”
Finally, the statements made by unnamed law enforcement officials in this report exonerate Trump supporters who have been vilified by the media and Democrats over the past seven months.
