President Donald Trump announced that he will be returning to Butler, Pennsylvania—the city where he was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt—for a campaign rally.
In a post to Truth Social, President Trump explained that this upcoming rally would honor Corey Comperatore, the former Buffalo Township fireman who was tragically killed during the shooting, along with the two wounded individuals.
“I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally, honoring the soul of our beloved firefighting hero, Corey, and those brave patriots injured two weeks ago,” President Trump wrote on Friday. “What a day it will be — fight, fight, fight! Stay tuned for details.”
The official date for this next rally in Butler has not been officially released.
On July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from a rooftop outside the Butler County Fairgrounds, firing eight rounds in under six seconds before he was shot by Secret Service, CBS News reported.
President Trump was grazed in the ear, while two rally-goers, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were critically injured.
Standing up after being shot, the president looked out to audience members and then pumped his fist, yelling “Fight!” as he was rushed from the stage by the Secret Service.
Corey Comperatore was killed, however, while heroically shielding his wife and daughter from the ensuing gunfire.
The Secret Service has come under scrutiny for their handling of security during the Butler rally, and has encouraged the Trump campaign against holding outdoor rallies following the shooting, according to the Washington Post.
The 45th president is already set to return to Pennsylvania prior to the upcoming rally in Butler, announcing on Thursday that he would hold a campaign event in Harrisburg on July 31.
This would be the president’s first time back in the state after the assassination attempt.
