First lady Melania Trump is threatening to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1 billion after he claimed convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to President Donald Trump.
Biden made the remarks during an Aug. 5 appearance on the “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan” podcast, while discussing whether the Trump administration was withholding documents about Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
“Do I think that there’s an actual [client] list? No, I don’t think that there’s an actual list. I don’t think that he was that stupid. But do I think that what they do have implicates [Trump]? Yeah, I think so,” Biden said. “You know, I mean, Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are like so wide and deep.”
Melania Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, sent a letter to Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, demanding a full retraction.
“Failure to comply will leave Mrs. Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer,” the letter stated, according to The New York Post.
In her memoir Melania, the first lady wrote that she met Donald Trump in September 1998 at a New York Fashion Week party hosted by Paolo Zampolli, president of ID Models. On July 18, she posted screenshots from the book on X to reiterate her account.
Biden’s allegation followed comments by Democratic strategist James Carville, who on July 31 suggested on his “Politics War Room” podcast that Melania Trump was a “key figure” in connections between Epstein and Donald Trump. After receiving a letter from her legal team, Carville apologized and removed the remarks.
Brito’s letter to Biden said the podcast comments were “false, disparaging, defamatory, and inflammatory” and had been widely circulated online. “The [Biden] video has since been re-published by various media outlets, journalists, and political commentators with millions of social media followers… Consequently, you have caused Mrs. Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm,” Brito wrote.
Melania Trump has not indicated when she might file the lawsuit if Biden refuses to retract his statement.
