President Donald Trump on Thursday called for the release of a well-known figure in the election integrity movement and threatened to take “harsh measures” if his request was not honored.
“FREE TINA PETERS, a brave and innocent Patriot who has been tortured by Crooked Colorado politicians, including the big Mail-In Ballot supporting the governor of the State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Many Americans likely became familiar with Peters’ story through a film produced by MyPillow CEO and election integrity advocate Mike Lindell. The film, “[S]election Code,” is a 2022 documentary led by investigative journalist Lara Logan. This film highlighted the story of Tina Peters, a former county clerk in Mesa County, Colorado.
As reported by RSBN, election officials from the Colorado Secretary of State’s office in 2021 visited Mesa County to allegedly wipe data from the election server and replace it with a new upgrade, or “trusted build” system, according to information presented in the documentary.
Peters made a copy of the original Mesa County election server. Her home was later raided by the FBI, and she was indicted in 2022 by a grand jury for allegedly leaking voter information.
In 2024, Peters was sentenced to nine years of incarceration for what Secretary of State Jena Griswold described in a statement as “dangerous attempts to break into her own election equipment to prove Trump’s ‘Big Lie.’”
However, amid years of allegations surrounding the safety and security of the 2020 election, Peters’ story has gained national attention and garnered considerable sympathy.
Retired General Mike Flynn – also an advocate for safe elections and Trump’s former National Security Advisor – wrote on X this week that the former county clerk possessed “critical information as a potential federal witness in the current investigation ongoing into the stolen 2020 election.”
“Federal authorities, including @AGPamBondi, in order to secure her critical testimony, must immediately move to have Tina released into federal custody,” Flynn said.
He added, “Additionally, a thorough investigation should be conducted into the judge who sentenced her to determine whether her imprisonment was proper or influenced by bias.”
Hours after Flynn’s statement on social media, Trump addressed Peters’ situation on Truth Social.
“Let Tina Peters out of jail, RIGHT NOW. She did nothing wrong, except catching the Democrats cheat in the Election. She is an old woman, and very sick. If she is not released, I am going to take harsh measures!!!” Trump said.
Peters is a 69-year-old grandmother, a cancer survivor, and a Gold Star mother of a fallen Navy SEAL.
