Several counts against President Trump and his co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case were “quashed” Wednesday morning by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee.
The judge dismissed six counts in total, three of which were charged against President Trump.
Trump will now face three fewer charges in Fani Willis’s indictment against him, bringing the total counts down from 13 to 10.
The charges were related to the alleged “soliciting of elected officials to violate their oaths of office,” according to the Associated Press.
Two of the charges stemmed from President Trump’s phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Trump has maintained that the phone call was “perfect” and that he did nothing wrong.
In his order, McAfee wrote that “these six counts contain all the essential elements of the crimes but fail to allege sufficient detail regarding the nature of their commission.”
He continued, advising that the State of Georgia did not “give the Defendants enough information to prepare their defenses intelligently.”
McAfee wrote that a new indictment could be brought for the same charges.
This is a developing story.
