Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) announced on Thursday its definitive merger agreement with TAE Technologies, a nuclear fusion power company, as the energy landscape evolves to meet the high demands of an AI-driven society.
According to an official press release, TMTG’s all-stock merger with TAE is valued at just over $6 billion.
TMTG Chairman and CEO Devin Nunes will serve alongside TAE CEO and Director Michl Binderbauer as co-CEO of the merger companies as they embark on this new journey.
Nunes said in a statement, “Trump Media & Technology Group built uncancellable infrastructure to secure free expression online for Americans, and now we’re taking a big step forward toward a revolutionary technology that will cement America’s global energy dominance for generations.”
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, fusion is a process that binds two light atomic nuclei together to form a single new one. The process yields massive amounts of net energy.
This science is based on the fusion reaction observed in the sun and stars – a collision process between nuclei in extreme temperatures.
Fusion tech may become a very important source of energy for the future as humanity’s demand for power increases, rising to meet the rise of energy-hoarding AI data centers. According to the agency, fusion could generate “four times more energy per kilogram of fuel than fission (used in nuclear power plants) and nearly four million times more energy than burning oil or coal.”
Per TMTG’s announcement, TAE Technologies has already built and operated five fusion reactors and raised over $1 billion in capital from power players like Charles Schwab, Chevron, and Google.
Upon merging, TMTG and TAE plan to “site and begin construction on the world’s first utility-scale fusion power plant,” subject to approvals, in 2026.
This newest venture from TMTG comes on the heels of the company’s investment in key areas like AI development (Truth Social AI), ETFs, curated investment strategies (through its FinTech brand Truth.Fi), and, of course, its original platform, the free speech social media website, Truth Social.
