Members of the GOP have slammed Joe Biden for attempting to blame President Trump and MAGA for the current border crisis.
Breitbart reported that during a public address at the White House, Biden urged Congress to approve a $118 billion Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. The bill grants only $20 billion of that funding to border security.
According to information shared by ABC News, this emergency bill would include changes to current asylum law and add an emergency power to allow a border shutdown to stop unauthorized migrant crossings when they reach a certain level.
Shortly after the bill was introduced to the Senate, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., declared the bill “dead on arrival.”
According to ABC News, Johnson said, “They sent us a supplemental funding proposal that has immigration reform but not real border security reform, and so that’s why it’s a nonstarter.” More than 20 Republican senators have opposed this bill.
With his bill blocked by the Senate, Biden attempted to blame President Trump for the current border crisis during a public address.
According to Breitbart, Biden told the audience, “Just at the moment we were going to secure the border and fund these other programs, Trump and the MAGA Republicans said no because they’re afraid of Donald Trump.”
Biden added, “Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends.”
Many GOP members have slammed Biden’s speech. Congressman Michael Cloud, R-Texas, wrote on X, “This is an outrageous claim. It’s a lie, plain and simple.”
Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, wrote on X slamming Biden, saying, “The border crisis has been deliberately manufactured by decisions made by Joe Biden and the radicals in his administration.”
Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., also criticized Biden’s comments, writing, “President Biden knows that demanding amnesty for illegal aliens—as he just did—will cause more illegal aliens to cross the border.” Cotton added, “The only way to stop it is to vote Biden out.”
