Alaska Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy said President Donald Trump has “rescued Alaska” during a recent interview.
Dunleavy shared the remarks during an interview with the Daily Signal on Friday during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C.
Trump’s actions have “rescued Alaska—rescued, I think, the country, and quite frankly, the world—from this social-engineering approach that was taking place,” Dunleavy said.
“In many respects, our future in oil production in Alaska was basically doomed” under Biden, Dunleavy said. “When President Trump came in, all that has changed.”
Under Trump, Alaska is moving forward with an 800-mile natural gas pipeline to sell gas to Asian allies, the governor noted. The move is expected to add thousands of jobs to the state.
The words came ahead of Trump sharing on Monday that he wants to build the Keystone XL pipeline which was canceled when former President Joe Biden entered office.
Trump shared the comments in a Truth Social post on Monday.
“Our Country’s doing really well, and today, I was just thinking, that the company building the Keystone XL Pipeline that was viciously jettisoned by the incompetent Biden Administration should come back to America, and get it built — NOW!” Trump wrote.
“I know they were treated very badly by Sleepy Joe Biden, but the Trump Administration is very different — Easy approvals, almost immediate start! If not them, perhaps another Pipeline Company. We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built!” he added.
The pipeline dates back to 2008 when TC Energy Corp planned to build the pathway to bring oil from Western Canada to the U.S. It was ended through an executive order by Biden in 2021.
The pipeline was originally set for completion in early 2023. It was expected to transport an additional 830,000 barrels of crude oil from Canada to the U.S. via an existing pipeline network, according to TC Energy. The project was also anticipated to generate thousands of jobs, including many union positions.
In December 2022, the Biden administration’s Department of Energy (DOE) released a report stating that the Keystone XL project could have created between 16,149 and 59,000 jobs, with an estimated economic impact ranging from $3.4 billion to $9.6 billion, based on various studies.
