President Donald Trump said on Monday that he wants to build the Keystone XL pipeline which was canceled when former President Joe Biden entered office.

Trump shared the comments in a Truth Social post on Monday.

“Our Country’s doing really well, and today, I was just thinking, that the company building the Keystone XL Pipeline that was viciously jettisoned by the incompetent Biden Administration should come back to America, and get it built — NOW!” Trump wrote.

“I know they were treated very badly by Sleepy Joe Biden, but the Trump Administration is very different — Easy approvals, almost immediate start! If not them, perhaps another Pipeline Company. We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built!” he added.

The pipeline dates back to 2008 when TC Energy Corp planned to build the pathway to bring oil from Western Canada to the U.S. It was ended through an executive order by Biden in 2021.

The pipeline was originally set for completion in early 2023. It was expected to transport an additional 830,000 barrels of crude oil from Canada to the U.S. via an existing pipeline network, according to TC Energy. The project was also anticipated to generate thousands of jobs, including many union positions.

In December 2022, the Biden administration’s Department of Energy (DOE) released a report stating that the Keystone XL project could have created between 16,149 and 59,000 jobs, with an estimated economic impact ranging from $3.4 billion to $9.6 billion, based on various studies.

The push for new oil follows Trump calling on nations in the European Union to buy more American oil or gas, threatening tariffs if they do not, back in December. Trump shared the update in a Truth Social post ahead of his return to the White House.

“I told the European Union that they must make up their tremendous deficit with the United States by the large scale purchase of our oil and gas. Otherwise, it is TARIFFS all the way!!!” he wrote.

The president added Europe to his growing list of nations under consideration for additional charges to do business with the U.S. under his administration. He previously warned of “100 percent” tariffs against BRICS countries trying to devalue the American dollar.

“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER. We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy,” Trump wrote.
