Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted vaccine passports in a tweet posted early on Wednesday. The Republican governor, who was recently given the Defender of Freedom award, has been a frequent critic of vaccine passports that limit the freedom of American citizens and discriminate against an individual’s choice.
Captioning a video describing the failure of vaccine passports, DeSantis said, “Vaccine passports discriminate against people and create a two-tiered society based on a personal health decision.” He added, “They have failed on their own terms and have damaged society in the process.”
In a video accompanying his statements, the governor presents a blistering attack against the ineffectiveness of vaccine passports. DeSantis began by asking the question many Americans have been asking, “Just look at what we’re seeing now. How big of a failure have vaccine passports been?”
As Covid-19 cases continue to surge in the United States, Americans have questioned the effectiveness of vaccine passports being required by many cities and states in order to enter indoor spaces. Addressing this concern, DeSantis said, “If vaccine passports succeeded, you would not see a lot of the stuff that you’re seeing in a lot of states that implemented them.”
While vaccine passports have not solved the Covid-19 crisis, DeSantis says, “All it served to do was discriminate against people based on an individual choice.” The governor concluded, “Those policies have not worked.”
After blasting the inefficacy of vaccine passports, DeSantis also addressed the reality that Americans are fleeing Democrat-controlled states and moving to experience the freedom of Florida.
DeSantis reminded Democrats, “People vote with their feet.” He added, “The fact of the matter is, if you look from July of 2020 to July of 2021, we led the country in where people were wanting to come to…I think that’s the result of protecting people’s freedoms and making sure that we had a state worth living in.”
The governor’s comments about vaccine passports are not the first he has made about Democrats creating a two-tiered society.
In December, DeSantis called out the hypocrisy of the Democrats’ mask mandates, saying, “I think it’s like a two-tiered society. They’re trying to have a servant class that has to always do all this, but yet the other class can lecture you about wearing masks, but then they don’t wear masks themselves. That’s wrong.”
Gov. DeSantis is one of many Republican leaders who have led the charge against vaccine passports. President Donald Trump, while supportive of the vaccines, has continued to oppose the government mandating the vaccine or requiring vaccine passports.
During an exclusive RSBN interview with the 45th president, Brian Glenn asked his opinion on vaccine passports for travel. President Trump replied, “The mandates are really very harmful for our country, and you see what’s happening with all of the things having to do with business, people are mandated and not able to go work, even if they want to…the mandates are a disaster.”
Governor DeSantis’ latest rebuke against vaccine passports represents his fundamental commitment to protect each citizen’s freedom of choice and individual liberty. While Democrat lawmakers continue to push vaccine mandates and passports that remain ineffective, Republican leaders continue to defend the freedom of Americans.
