Trump-endorsed candidate Herschel Walker may no longer be breaking tackles or scoring touchdowns on the gridiron, but the Hall of Fame running back from the University of Georgia is rushing his way to a senatorial victory with a three-point lead.
A recent poll conducted by the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs reveals that Walker is the favored choice among voters to become the next U.S. Senator from the Peach State.
Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., currently occupies the contested seat after winning a special election in 2020 against Republican Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the office after the resignation of former Sen. Johnny Isakson. The research concludes that out of 832 participants, 47 percent agree that the Georgian native is the best option for the success of the state and for the nation.
Also recorded in the survey was an abysmal vote of no confidence for Joe Biden’s performance. When asked if the country is headed in the right direction, an emphatic 71 percent answered no. The public opinion of Biden’s failures remains consistent throughout polling from multiple outlets.
Data compiled by the renowned Quinnipiac University Polling Institute shows that 55 percent of Americans do not believe Biden is competent enough to reside in the White House. Highlighting the economy, the University of Georgia poll discloses that most Americans prioritize the economy over Covid and that they are less financially secure now than when Trump was in office.
Since announcing his bid for Senate, and after picking up Trump’s endorsement, the Heisman Trophy winner has topped the charts with campaign fundraising. Within 5 months, Walker accumulated $5 million dollars between August and the end of 2021. Praising his supporters for their generous donations, Walker said, “We could not do it without your help.”
As the midterm elections approach, and what looks to be a victory for conservatives, Walker predicts that “Georgia is next,” adding to the list of Republican states looking to create a red wave.
