In the greatest comeback in American history, President-elect Donald Trump secured his victory on election night with Vice President Kamala Harris leading the way to officially certify the 2024 presidential results.
Trump posted on Truth Social, ” CONGRESS CERTIFIES OUR GREAT ELECTION VICTORY TODAY — A BIG MOMENT IN HISTORY. MAGA!” Trump secured the win as the 47th president by becoming the second president to serve non-consecutive terms from 45 to 47.
As sitting vice president, also known as the President of the Senate, Harris certified her defeat by overseeing the certification process on January 6 in a joint session of Congress.
In this significant moment in American history, Harris is the second sitting vice president after Al Gore to officiate the certification of the presidential election results as the losing candidate.
Every state read its state certificate after electors by each state’s winning party selected their votes for president and vice president last December.
This is the last step for transitioning from the current to the new administration by certifying the election results with all 538 electoral votes being counted with 435 votes based on the members of the House of Representatives and 100 electoral votes based on the number of U.S. senators, while including three electoral votes from Washington, D.C.
Trump was formally declared the official winner of the 2024 presidential election as inauguration day draws closer on Tuesday, January 20.
