House Republicans passed the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” Thursday morning in an effort to address the issue of trans women, or biological men, competing in female sports.

According to the Washington Examiner, the legislation would prevent biological males from competing against biological females in women’s sports by requiring an individual’s sex to be “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

Despite Democrats like Joe Biden insisting that the legislation “discriminates” against individuals who identify as transgender, the legislation passed through the House of Representatives in a 219-203 vote along party lines.

Prior to Thursday’s vote, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., explained the importance of this issue, tweeting, “Joe Biden and the Democrats want men beating down women and girls by participating in women’s sports. Today, I will vote to ensure real women are fully protected by Title IX. We must end The War On Women!”

House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Ny., explained that the bill is about “protecting women’s sports” both “now” and in the nation’s “future.”

Announcing the House’s intent to pass the legislation, she said, “Today we will pass this historic legislation to protect women and girls in sports.” Stefanik added, “It is a winning issue across America, standing up for the future of women and girls.”

Following Thursday’s historic vote, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., tweeted, “It’s a great day in America for fairness, families, and female athletes.”

The “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” was sponsored by Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., in an effort to “save women’s sports.” Steube described the issue of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports as a “perversion.”

“Over the last several years there has been a perversion in our culture by the enemy, and the left has completely embraced the lie to erase the lines of gender and to convince you there isn’t really gender, and that gender is fluid and can be whatever you want whenever you want,” Steube said. “The left has taken gender identity so far that many on the left today cannot even define what a woman is for fear of retribution by trans activists.”

Following its passage in the House, the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” will be sent to the Senate for consideration. However, as Fox News reported, Democrat leadership is not expected to take up the legislation. Biden has also threatened to veto the bill if the legislation was passed by the Senate.
