On Wednesday, the House of Representatives failed to select a Speaker of the House yet again, as Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was not yet supported by enough Republicans to help him clinch the speakership.

According to Just the News, Jordan plans to make a third bid for the speakership, tentatively on Thursday. However, a proposal has reportedly emerged in the House that would allow Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., to remain in his position for a more extensive period until a final Speaker can be elected.

Preceding the second vote, Jordan made a call for congressional unity on X, writing, “We must stop attacking each other and come together. There’s too much at stake. Let’s get back to working on the crisis at the southern border, inflation, and helping Israel.”

Wednesday’s House members received an unwelcome surprise when a large group of pro-Palestinian protesters rallied around the U.S. Capitol and pushed inside. According to ABC, more than 300 people were arrested by the Capitol Police, which allegedly was organized by a “left-wing Jewish group.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has labeled the event an alleged “insurrection,” and promised to file a censure resolution against Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., for her reported part in the protests, although it is unknown if she actually entered the U.S. Capitol along with protesters.

On X, Greene called Tlaib a “terrorist sympathizer.” Greene also allegedly took a photo of a protestor’s phone. The photo included a chat with the title, “Global Intifada,” which Greene said “means global Arab uprising and rebellions[.]”

She further alleged, “SPLC attorney was also involved with Antifa group in Atlanta Stop Cop City. Tlaib, Omar, Bush, and AOC brought in the radical violent left today right in Cannon.”

Greene was referring to the Cannon House Office Building, which is where the protesters managed to gain entrance to the Capitol on Wednesday.

Amid the chaos of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations, the subsequent arrests, and the fallout from these events, it is unclear when the third Speaker vote will take place, but it may happen on Thursday.
