The Chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has issued a congressional subpoena to the former New York County District Attorney Assistant Mark Pomerantz, who previously aided in leading the investigation into the finances of President Donald J. Trump.
Pomerantz, who famously resigned from the investigation and then inexplicably released a book detailing the ongoing probe, has come under fire for his decision to publish a book and include details about the case.
Via a press statement shared by the committee:
“Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed former New York County Special Assistant Mark Pomerantz to appear before the Committee for a deposition. As special assistant district attorney, Pomerantz led the investigation into President Donald Trump’s finances before resigning in protest after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s initial reluctance to move forward with charges against President Trump.”
The statement also pointed out that Pomerantz “publicly criticized Bragg for failing to aggressively prosecute President Trump and even wrote a memoir describing his eagerness to investigate President Trump and disclosing internal deliberations about the investigations.”
Those public statements “strongly suggest that Bragg’s prosecution of President Trump is politically motivated,” the committee added.
Another point of interest from the committee highlighted the Manhattan DA’s office acknowledgment of using “federal forfeiture funds” to investigate Trump, even during Pomerantz’s tenure.
The committee will conduct oversight on the matter and intends to “inform the consideration of potential legislative reforms that would, among other things, prevent state or local politically motivated prosecutions of current of former presidents.”
Jordan further commented on Twitter about the current Manhattan indictment against Trump, “The Justice Department wasn’t going to bring this case. The previous District Attorney Cy Vance wasn’t going to bring this case. And even Alvin Bragg himself, when he first gets elected, didn’t want to bring the case. But you know who did want to bring it? Mark Pomerantz.”
