The House Judiciary Committee alleged on Tuesday that the Internal Revenue Service, during the Biden administration, leaked taxpayer information for more than 405,000 Americans, including President Donald Trump.
The committee announced the shocking news on X, explaining that the IRS had confirmed this following an initial inquiry launched into the situation last year at the direction of Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
“The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe,” the committee account stated.
According to the committee, an IRS spokesman told Republicans in 2024 that only 70,000 Americans were affected by this leak. The new number is profoundly more expansive.
A letter posted by the Judiciary Committee from IRS Acting Commissioner Douglas W. O’Donnell explained:
“Relying on data analysis by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) and the IRS, the IRS mailed notifications to 405,427 taxpayers whose taxpayer information was inappropriately disclosed by Mr. Littlejohn. Approximately 89% of the taxpayers are business entities.”
Conservative leaders were swift to respond to this scandal online, noting the hypocrisy of liberal outrage regarding Elon Musk’s work to force government agencies to maintain accountability and transparency through DOGE.
“All the outrage and hysterics about Elon Musk and DOGE accessing sensitive information while the IRS all on its own gets caught red handed leaking taxpayer info of over 405,000 Americans—all without Elon’s help!!” wrote Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk.
Musk himself commented on the development on Tuesday, remarking on X, “Do you trust the government?”
Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt’s office posited, “Sharing for the people screaming: ‘ELON MUSK HAS MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!’ I’m sure we’ll hear crickets from the same crowd regarding this revelation.”
The Judiciary Committee called this revelation a “MASSIVE scandal” and vowed to pursue the situation. “Getting answers for the American people!” the committee account concluded.
