Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden, flouted a congressional deposition that was scheduled to take place on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, leaving many Americans to wonder what the next step will be in House Republicans’ ongoing investigation into the Biden family’s alleged foreign influence peddling schemes.

According to the Washington Examiner, Hunter Biden’s attorney told House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., that his client would not be participating in the deposition, which was part of a previous subpoena sent to Biden via Comer.

In statements to the press, Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, reiterated their plan to continue to pursue Hunter in their investigation, which comes as the House is poised to make a formal vote to continue the ongoing impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.

“We expect to depose the president’s son and then we will be more than happy to have a public hearing with him,” Comer stated.

Comer’s statement was in response to Hunter Biden’s comments made to the media in front of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday morning, where he demanded a public hearing before a congressional committee.

He blamed the “MAGA right” for using him for “political purposes” and criticized Republicans for impugning his “character” and attacking his wife and children.

Rep. Jordan railed against the request for a public hearing, explaining that “the way you get the facts” is “you bring people in for an interview behind closed doors where you can get those facts.”

Neither Comer nor Jordan conveyed that they would be unwilling to hold a public hearing. Rather, they insist on having a private, closed-door deposition first.

Jordan noted that when the House prospectively voted to continue to formally further the impeachment inquiry, “we’ll see what their excuse is [Biden’s legal team] then. They should have been here today but once we take that vote, we expect them to come in for this interview, for this deposition.”

He added that he also expected to look at contempt proceedings “as we move forward.”
