Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of President Donald Trump, shared a rare glimpse into her life this week during a new interview with Steven Bartlett, touching upon the moment she found out that her father had been shot in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.
“I was in Bedminster, New Jersey, and there was a lot of commotion; the televisions were on, so I saw it almost immediately,” she said. “Not in my house…don’t love watching television. But out by the pool and the bistro. It was almost real-time. It was before he had stood back up.”
Most Americans recall the moment President Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler on July 13, 2024. He ducked below the podium and was piled on by Secret Service agents. Moments later, he stood back up and raised his fist, yelling, “Fight, fight!”
It became, perhaps, the turning point of the 2024 campaign. Just days later, the president appeared at the Republican National Convention with a bandage on his ear and a whole lot of political momentum.
Speaking about the moment she saw what was happening on television on July 13, Ivanka Trump said, “Two of my children were there, so my first reaction was to turn them away, but it was incredibly difficult. Interestingly, I knew in real-time in that moment that he was fine…I just knew that, like, it wasn’t his time. So, I was horrified, and I was scared, and I was protective of my children, but I also didn’t believe that the worst possible outcome had transpired.”
Ms. Trump said she visited with her father later when he came home after the assassination attempt. “I saw him that night when he came home from the hospital…it was late, two o’clock in the morning,” she said, noting that she and her husband, Jared Kushner, stayed up to see him.
“You can’t take things for granted in life, and I’ve learned that in numerous ways, that being one of them,” she continued. “When my mom passed prematurely, when my husband had a scare with cancer. You know, all of these challenges that remind you how finite and how precious every moment of this life we live are.”
