Republican vice presidential candidate and Ohio Sen. JD Vance has agreed to debates with Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Vance took to X to announce his acceptance of two debates, including one on CBS and another on CNN.

“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already,” he wrote.

“Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!” he added.

Walz has formally only accepted the first debate with CBS, according to his own X account.

“See you on October 1, JD,” he wrote on Wednesday.

CBS originally proposed four potential dates, including two in September and two in October. The debate will be held in New York City.

Vance also addressed the upcoming debates during an interview on Wednesday with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“I strongly suspect we’re going to be there on October 1, but we’re not going to do one of these fake debates, Laura, where they don’t actually have an audience there, where they don’t actually set the parameters in a right way, where we can have a good exchange of ideas,” Vance told Ingraham.

“Hopefully we’re going to see him on Oct. 1, but hopefully we’re going to see him either before or after that because I think it’s important for the American people to actually see us discuss our views,” he added.

Vice presidential candidates have traditionally held only one debate, while presidential candidates have traditionally held three debates.

The event between Vance and Walz on CBS will follow the debate currently scheduled between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on Sept. 10 on ABC News.

Trump has also accepted dates to debate Harris on Fox News on Sept. 4 and on NBC News on Sept. 25. Harris has not formally accepted the additional dates.

The announcement also comes as the Democratic National Convention is held this week in Chicago where Harris and Walz will formally celebrate the party’s official nomination.
