After a leaked draft opinion suggested that the court is leaning toward overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas maintained that the nation’s highest court cannot be “bullied,” Reuters reported.
As a society, “we are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” Thomas said Friday at an 11th Circuit Judicial Conference.
“We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that,” Thomas added, referring to the rise in protests after Politico leaked the document earlier this month. The draft opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito boldly rejects the principles used to justify the 1973 decision.
Abortion activists have gathered in front of the Supreme Court to protest the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade which legalized abortion throughout the country.
Amid fear of Roe v. Wade’s potential demise, abortion activists have resorted to releasing the partial addresses of the six Supreme Court justices, as reported by the New York Post.
The abortion group “Ruth Sent Us” allegedly made plans to protest at the homes of the justices Wednesday.
According to information obtained by the New York Post, they plan to target the homes of Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Barrett, and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Following the heated demonstrations, a tall security fence was erected surrounding the Supreme Court. The barricades are likely to remain as Americans await the court’s final decision in June.
