Kamala Harris pledges support to Ukraine if Russia invades

Kamala Harris met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday and pledged the United States’ support in the event of a Russian invasion, according to a report from Fox News.

Although the type of support she would commit to is unclear, according to the Fox News report, she promised “severe economic sanctions” on Russia if they invade Ukraine.

As rumors have swirled around the situation in Ukraine and whether or not Russia would consider threatening or invading them, many Americans are likely doubting whether or not the U.S. should position itself in the middle of a potential overseas conflict.

After all, Joe Biden only withdrew American troops from Afghanistan a few months ago in a badly botched exit that left behind billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment and technology to the Taliban.

In fact, President Donald Trump stated in a February interview with “Fox and Friends” that Russia’s growing aggression toward Ukraine is a direct result of Biden’s failed Afghanistan withdrawal.

Trump stated, “I think Putin really wanted to negotiate for a period of time, but when he watched Afghanistan, when he watched that unbelievably bad withdrawal, incompetent, where they took the military out first, where they left $85 billion worth of equipment behind for the Taliban to have and to use and of course the deaths that happened – when they watched all of that I think they got emboldened.”

With Russia emboldened by Biden’s incompetence, reporting around the world has been all over the map regarding the escalating tensions.

AFP News Agency reported on Saturday that Germany’s foreign ministry said that German citizens in Ukraine were being asked to leave the country as apprehension over Russia’s next move grows.

Interestingly, Newsmax correspondent Alex Salvi reported that the Ukrainian president has been skeptical of reports of a Russian invasion. “The intelligence I trust is mine,” Zelensky stated on Saturday. “I trust Ukrainians who understand what’s going on in our borders. We’re not living in delusion.”

Further, he also poked fun at the idea of sanctions as well as rumors of imminent Russian invasion: “If you can’t even disclose what will happen to whom if the war starts, then I doubt it will be triggered even if it happens,” he said.

Many Americans are likely wondering what the benefit of being involved in the conflict in Ukraine is for the United States, especially in light of the recent and badly-executed withdrawal from a 20-year military operation in Afghanistan. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris seem intent on inserting themselves into the middle of the conflict, which bodes ill for the U.S. if Russia does indeed invade Ukraine.
