Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced an unprecedented overhaul to the way the U.S. government approaches food safety measures and healthcare protocols.
The Make Our Children Healthy Again strategy report details the four main lifestyle concerns that lead to childhood chronic disease: unhealthy diet, exposure to harmful chemicals, inactivity and chronic stress, and overmedicalization.
Under Kennedy’s direction, the Make America Healthy Again Commission plans to advance research in these areas, partner with private businesses to improve the food and healthcare industries, overhaul incentives, and spread public awareness. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will focus on studying and reducing chronic disease and launch a health directive aimed at providing healthcare that focuses on a person’s whole wellness throughout all stages of life.
The EPA, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and NIH will partner to further research harmful chemicals and their effects on the body by instituting New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) that improve data models and lead to more accurate health predictions and warnings.
Vaccine injuries and autism will be heavily researched, as will environmental factors like water contamination, air quality, microplastics, and synthetics. In addition, the effects of prescription drugs and nutrition on the body will be more thoroughly investigated with help from the Veterans Affairs (VA), the FDA, and the USDA.
Radiation exposure, addiction, and clinical trial networks will also be included in the overhaul to Make Our Children Healthy Again, along with research regarding rural and tribal Americans.
Furthermore, dietary guidelines will be updated to encourage healthier lifestyles. Food additives will be more thoroughly researched and updated according to new health standards. Nutrition labels, baby formula, VA food, and hospital food will be updated and held to these new standards.
From early childcare to medical school curriculum, the entire healthcare industry is getting an upgrade on how it assesses, treats, and follows up on American health. But the biggest portion of these changes is the HHS rebrand. The HHS will be restructured into the Administration for a Healthy America.
Kennedy celebrated this historic overhaul in a post on X, shortly after the announcement on Tuesday. He wrote, “We’ve accomplished more already than any health secretary in history—and the accomplishments we’re going to have by the end of the year will be historic and unprecedented.”
