Musical artist Kid Rock has endorsed Republican candidate John James in the race for governor of Michigan, giving the campaign a high-profile boost on Super Bowl Sunday.
James’ campaign announced the endorsement in a press release ahead of Kid Rock’s appearance at Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show during Super Bowl weekend.
“As our next governor of Michigan I know you will bring many victories to our GREAT STATE!” Kid Rock said in a statement.
Campaign officials said the endorsement reflects growing momentum for James, who has closely aligned himself with President Donald Trump since 2018. Both James and Kid Rock, who are from the Detroit area, highlighted shared views on Michigan’s manufacturing base, cultural identity and the need for new leadership in Lansing.
“Kid Rock is a good friend,” James said in the statement. “We share our love for Detroit, the state of Michigan, and the United States of America.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of this unapologetic freedom-loving patriot and I look forward to working with him and every other Michigander to make Michigan great again!”
The campaign said James is building support among working-class voters, veterans, business leaders and conservatives as Michigan remains a key battleground heading into the next election cycle.
James has consistently supported Trump over the years, maintaining a firm alignment as others opposed the former president or stayed on the sidelines. Campaign officials say that record has helped position him as a leading contender in the gubernatorial race and a rising figure in national Republican politics.
“Kid Rock is a good friend. We share our love for Detroit, the state of Michigan and the United States of America!” James stated, according to Fox News. “I’m honored to have the endorsement of this unapologetic freedom-loving patriot and I look forward to working with him and every other Michigander to make Michigan great again!”
The news also came as Kid Rock headlined an alternative Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday night, hosted by Turning Point USA.
