President Donald Trump sharply criticized the Super Bowl LX halftime show Sunday night, calling the performance headlined by Bad Bunny “one of the worst, EVER” and “an affront to the Greatness of America.”
In a post on Truth Social minutes after the show ended, the president said the performance failed to reflect what he described as American standards of success, creativity, and excellence.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” President Trump wrote.
President Trump focused much of his criticism on the fact that Bad Bunny’s music is performed exclusively in Spanish, as well as on the choreography, which he described as inappropriate.
“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World,” the president wrote. “This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country.”
The performance featured imagery tied to Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican heritage, with sets depicting greenery, farm workers and a staged wedding scene inside Levi’s Stadium. Guest appearances included Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
As the show concluded, Bad Bunny held up a football, reading “Together We Are America,” while a message on the stadium video board read, “THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE.”
President Trump dismissed the performance as uninspiring and predicted it would receive favorable coverage from what he called the “Fake News Media.”
“There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD,” he wrote.
Ahead of the game, Trump said he planned instead to watch Turning Point USA’s alternative “All-American Halftime Show,” which featured country music performers and was headlined by Kid Rock.
