Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed on Wednesday that she was the victim of an attempted swatting at her home in Georgia. According to the congresswoman, the incident occurred just after 1:00 a.m. “I can’t express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement here in Rome, Floyd County,” she added on Twitter.
According to the New York Post, the term “swatting” refers to an attempt to fabricate a false criminal report, which often results in law enforcement being sent to a location where there is no real emergency.
A report that Greene retweeted from The National Pulse, revealed that police officers in Rome, Georgia, responded to a 911 call early in the morning, according to a local newspaper report, “which led them to initially believe” that there was a man in the bathtub of Greene’s house who had been “shot multiple times.”
The local report further stated that after they cleared the call with Greene, they received a second call from the suspect, who reportedly claimed responsibility for faking the call.
“It was a computer generated voice,” the report stated. “They explained they were upset about Ms. Greene’s stance on ‘trans-gender youth’s rights,’ and they stated they were trying to ‘swat’ her.”
Greene hit back after the frightening incident on Twitter. “If this is the war the left wants, this is the war the left will get,” she stated. “I will never stop protecting children and defending their innocence. We have to immediately pass H.R. 8731, the Protect Children’s Innocent Act, to end the mutilation of kids.”
Last week, Greene introduced the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act” which would criminalize so-called “gender affirming care” for minors. The bill, if passed, would additionally make it a felony to prescribe puberty blockers for children or to perform sex-change operations on those under the age of 18.
Per the National Pulse, the suspect who called the police in the attempted “swatting” additionally told law enforcement that they were working in tandem with a website that propagates cyberstalking. According to Rome News-Tribune, the Rome Police Department is currently investigating the situation, along with the Capitol Police.
This is a developing story.
