Former First Lady Melania Trump shared the somber news of her mother’s recent passing after battling with an undisclosed illness.

On Jan. 10, Melania Trump announced the passing of her mother on X, writing, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija.”

According to BBC News, Melania Trump’s mother, Amalija Knavs, was a Slovenian citizen until 2018, when she was sponsored for her green card and became a U.S. citizen.

In addition, Melania Trump also wrote, “Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”

Like her mother, Melania Trump is also very devoted to her family. Last year, she was noticeably absent from the New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Lago and RSBN reported that President Trump explained her absence. He told the crowd of conservative allies and friends that Melania was at a hospital in Miami taking care of her mother, who was very ill at the time.

President Trump said, “So, we just want to say hello to the First Lady. We just spoke… it’s a very tough one.”

Condolences have poured in online for the grieving family, with President Trump writing on Truth Social, “This is a very sad night for the entire Trump family!!! Melania’s great and beautiful mother, Amalija, has just gone to a beautiful place in the sky. She was an incredible woman, and will be missed far beyond words!”

Ivanka Trump shared her condolences on X, writing, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Melania’s beloved mother, Amalija Knavs, a remarkable woman who brought immense joy and love into the lives of all around her.”
