First Lady Melania Trump highlighted the potential for change at the 113th First Lady’s Luncheon on Thursday, an honored tradition attended by members of the Trump administration, business leaders and spouses of members of Congress.
Mrs. Trump used the opportunity to promote unity and share her plans for achieving policy objectives she has championed throughout the second term of the Trump administration, including the protection of children and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance education.
The event took place in the ballroom at the Washington Hilton and celebrated America’s 250th anniversary. The luncheon has been historically hosted by the Congressional Club Museum and Foundation since 1912. Guests received a variety of patriotic gifts, including gold bracelets shaped like a bald eagle and glass Diet Coke bottles featuring a stars-and-stripes design, a nod to President Trump’s favorite beverage. Mrs. Trump was introduced by Second Lady Usha Vance before delivering remarks that focused on expanding opportunities for children.
“As parents and leaders, it is our ethical obligation to ensure our kids develop emotionally and physically within a safe environment,” Mrs. Trump said. “Last week, I shared this declaration with members of the prestigious Ways and Means Committee on Capitol Hill. We convened to advance landmark legislation to protect the foster care community.”
Mrs. Trump noted the bipartisan support for her legislative efforts. She also focused on the need to adapt protections for children in a rapidly developing technological environment.
“Progress is not granted—you must be the composer. Embolden your influence in the community with a strong vision to the future,” Mrs. Trump said. “We are not here to prepare our children for yesterday’s world. Be purposeful with your objectives and remember that AI accelerates everything.”
Gifts were presented to both the First Lady and the Second Lady at the conclusion of their remarks. Mrs. Trump was given a painting of historical landmarks in Washington. Mrs. Vance was given a baby blanket in celebration of her pregnancy with her fourth child.
Mrs. Trump thanked those present and encouraged participation in improving the future for the next generation.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as First Lady but understand that my persistence alone is not enough. Together, we can change people’s lives for the better,” Mrs. Trump said.
