Just two days before her memoir’s launch, First Lady Melania Trump sat for an interview with Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo.
The pair discussed various aspects of the book, including how she was effectively “canceled” after President Donald Trump left office in 2021.
The first lady revealed that the treatment began immediately after her husband announced he was running for president and continued while he was in the White House. She added that her experience was worse after Trump left office.
“When I established my own business. As you said, the bank suddenly informed me they will not be able to do business with me anymore. Also, I had very prominent email distribution service provider just rapidly terminated my agreement, so suddenly. As well as the university,” Melania Trump said.
She told Bartiromo that one university had agreed to accept her donations for foster children but then the board of directors called back and said they could not move forward because of who she was.
“It’s very sad because who suffered? They were children from foster community. They didn’t have a scholarship that somebody would provide for them. They didn’t want to do business with me because of political affiliation, my political beliefs. That was one of them, one of the canceling project,” Mrs. Trump said.
Bartiromo asked if anything had changed since then. The first lady said that “some people got the courage and they said, like you, they see it, what’s going on, and they are not afraid to speak, but it’s still going on. I think it’s still cancel culture and that trend, it’s still going on.”
During the interview, Bartiromo asked why she believed it was important for her husband to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of the first assassination attempt against him.
“I think he wants to finish what he came to do, to finish his remarks, his speech, and uh, show that we will not, we will not stop. That one shooter will not stop him,” she said.
The first lady explained how it was “very hard to watch” the video back because of the thought of how things would have ended very differently based on the position of his head.
When asked if she trusted the Secret Service, Mrs. Trump said, “I have a great team in my detail around me, and my husband as well. I think there is some, some whole something that’s going on, on the top level, or it was when that shooting happened. I know some people changed the positions, but let’s hope that will never happen again.”
