U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated during a press conference on Thursday that the Department of Justice had filed a motion to unseal the search warrant used in the FBI’s raid of President Donald Trump’s Florida home.
“Since I became attorney general I have made clear that the Department of Justice will speak through its court filings and its work,” Garland told the press. “Just now, the Department of Justice has filed a motion, in the southern district of Florida, to unseal [the] search warrant and property receipt relating to a court-approved search that the FBI conducted earlier this week.”
Garland went on, “That search was of premises located in Florida, belonging to the former president. The department did not make any public statements on the day of the search. The former president publicly confirmed the search that evening, as is his right.”
On Monday night, President Trump revealed in an official statement made through his Save America PAC that his home was “under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.”
In the same press conference, Garland confirmed that he had personally approved the search warrant that was used for the raid, per RSBN. “I personally approved the decision to seek the warrant in this manner,” he stated.
“Copies of both the warrant and the FBI property receipt were provided on the day of the search to the former president’s counsel, who was onsite during the search,” Garland continued in his remarks addressing the warrant.
