House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced on social media on Wednesday that the House will be voting to formally open an impeachment inquiry on Joe Biden.
This accelerates Biden’s impeachment inquiry amid the investigations into his dodgy business dealings. Speaker Johnson wrote an op-ed explaining the House’s next moves.
RSBN reported that Johnson wrote, “The American people have a right to know whether the president—through his family—traded official acts for foreign dollars.”
The Speaker elaborated on why the House is undertaking this Biden impeachment inquiry. He said that Americans need to know “whether the president is compromised and whether Joe Biden abused his power as president to impede or obstruct the investigation into Hunter Biden.”
Voting on the impeachment inquiry is a formal step that will give the House an improved ability to gather evidence, enforce subpoenas, and overall better legal standing to withstand the anticipated pushback from the White House.
NBC News reported what Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio said about the vote: “We think a formal vote of the majority of the House, on record, for a power that solely resides with the House — that helps us if, in fact, we’ve got to go to court.”
According to NBC News, Republicans are confident going into the vote with Johnson writing on X, “The facts don’t lie. It’s time to get the American people answers.” Johnson has repeatedly stated that the House has a duty to “follow the truth where it leads,” and now the House is doing exactly that.
Jordan echoed this sentiment, as reported by NBC News, “We have no choice but to fulfill our constitutional responsibility. We have to take the next step. We’re not making a political decision — it’s not. It’s a legal decision.”
