Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced this week that he had set his sights on the Department of Justice following “evidence that has come to light” concerning the timing of the prosecutions against President Trump.
In an official statement, AG Bailey explained, “Thanks to evidence that has come to light, my office has reason to believe Biden’s corrupt Department of Justice is the headquarters of the illicit prosecutions against President Trump.”
He added, “That’s why we’re demanding the DOJ turn over documents that we believe will expose these political prosecutions for what they are: a witch hunt.”
According to the AG’s office, he has asked the DOJ to hand over communications “relating to the investigation or prosecutions of President Trump.” These communications include documents, appointments, meeting minutes, and agendas concerning the DOJ and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Willis, Bragg, and James have all spearheaded cases against President Trump over the past year. Bragg’s current criminal case against the president in Manhattan is ongoing.
James’ civil case against the president resulted in a nearly half-billion-dollar judgment that he is working on appealing, and DA Willis is currently facing a hearing in the Georgia Court of Appeals on whether she can continue leading her “election interference” case against Trump.
In AG Bailey’s request for these documents, he highlighted his belief that the investigations and the prosecutions of the 45th president “appear to have been conducted in coordination with the United States Department of Justice.”
He pointed out that ex-Biden DOJ official Matthew Colangelo was appointed to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as a lead prosecutor “in order to prosecute former President Donald J. Trump in the so-called ‘hush money’ trial in December 2022.”
AG Bailey concluded, “Given the timing (Bragg charged Trump only after Trump declared his candidacy for President), the transparent weakness of the charges, and the effect the charges have in keeping Trump off the campaign trail, there is substantial reason to suspect the Biden administration has coordinated with Bragg and others to bring prosecutions against Trump.”
