Most Americans today do not believe that President Trump committed a crime in the now-infamous “hush money” criminal trial ongoing in Manhattan, which is expected to last several weeks.
According to a new poll from AP-NORC, a small minority of U.S. adults polled believe that Trump actually committed any type of wrongdoing in the case, which is based upon allegations of falsifying documents to cover up an affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels.
According to the AP-NORC poll, only 35 percent of Americans think that Trump did something illegal in the Manhattan case, and perhaps unsurprisingly, only four out of 10 Americans had “little or no confidence that the prosecutors are unbiased.”
Notably, Stormy Daniels herself allegedly penned a signed statement in 2018 denying that an affair with Trump ever happened. The letter read:
“The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2017, and now again in 2018. I am not denying this affair because I was paid ‘hush money’ as has been reported in overseas owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened.”
AP-NORC’s new data comes amid the second day of Trump’s trial in New York, where jury selection is still underway. According to Fox News, 50 jurors were excused on Monday, and another 14 were excused on Tuesday from the juror pool.
Trump was also slammed with a new warning from the court on Tuesday as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a motion to hold Trump in contempt of court for violating a gag order issued by Judge Merchan before the start of the trial.
Via RSBN, the motion would fine Trump $1,000 for each of the three alleged violations and threaten up to 30 days in jail upon future violations if the judge grants Bragg’s motion.
