Fresh on the heels of a House vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., revealed that Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has asked her to sit on the Conference Committee that will negotiate the final text of the NDAA Senate bill.
She explained on Twitter, “The NDAA we voted on today is a good bill. It removes funding for transgender surgeries, provides pay increases and greater healthcare benefits to our service members, and defunds all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. Unfortunately, it still includes funding for Ukraine.”
On Thursday, Rep. Greene slammed House representatives for voting against her proposed amendment on the NDAA legislation that would have axed $300 million in funding from flowing to Ukraine.
She commented, “Passing America’s NATIONAL Defense Authorization Act should not include funding for endless foreign wars while there are homeless veterans laying in our streets.”
On Friday, she told the press that sitting on the conference would “allow me to be a voice in the room to talk about removing the money going to Ukraine, to talk about the importance that our Department of Defense’s mission is to DETER war and protect our nation’s national security.”
Greene’s stance on halting U.S. funding for Ukrainian defense efforts against Russian aggression is a powerful contrast to the Biden administration. This week, Joe Biden ordered the activation of 3,000 U.S. reserve troops to assist in military operations in Europe, fanning the flames of a potential international conflict with Russia.
“I will work to make sure every single penny for Ukraine is removed, or I’ll be a no vote when it comes back to the House,” Rep. Greene promised.
