President Donald Trump’s journey to winning the Republican nomination in 2024 has been unprecedented and marked by historic victories in states like Iowa and New Hampshire, setting a powerful tone for the upcoming November general election.
On the heels of a hot streak of primary wins, the nation is looking toward a slate of big victories on Super Tuesday for the 45th president. At this stage in the game, there is no denying that Donald Trump is the prospective Republican presidential nominee.
It remains to be seen, then, why GOP presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has chosen to stay in the Republican race this year, even after getting resoundingly trounced by Trump in her home state’s GOP primary election last week.
In fact, Haley eked out her first and likely only primary win on Sunday evening in Washington, D.C. Reuters called it a “symbolic” victory for Haley, and they’re absolutely right: it’s fitting that the only place where Republican voters have embraced Haley is right in the heart of the D.C. swamp.
While Haley netted a singular victory in D.C., Trump has been winning the hearts of American voters and building a powerful campaign machine with which to do political battle with Joe Biden in November.
Trump’s campaign press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, explained in an official statement following Haley’s win in D.C. that the former U.N. Ambassador had simply been “crowned Queen of the Swamp by the lobbyists and DC insiders that want to protect the failed status quo.”
Trump has won the support of everyday Americans across the nation, but Haley has only been able to score votes from the tired and entrenched D.C. aristocracy.
The president directly addressed the D.C. primary election Truth Social, slamming “Birdbrain” Haley for putting “all of her time” into winning a meaningless contest.
He wrote, “I purposely stayed away from the D.C. Vote because it is the ‘Swamp,’ with very few delegates, and no upside. Birdbrain spent all of her time, money and effort there. Over the weekend we won Missouri, Idaho, and Michigan – BIG NUMBERS – Complete destruction of a very weak opponent. The really big numbers will come on Super Tuesday. Also, WAY UP ON CROOKED JOE!”
President Trump’s dominant position in the general election is yet another indication that he has the support of voters across the political spectrum, with polls from the New York Times, CBS News, Fox News, and the Wall Street Journal all showing Trump with a national lead over Biden in a hypothetical matchup.
A new electoral projection map from Bloomberg/Morning Consult also found that in a 2024 general election, Trump would dominate Biden with a win of 312 electoral votes against Biden’s 221, via RSBN.
There is no doubt that President Trump is on track to be the prospective Republican nominee, and in light of Monday’s unanimous 9-0 ruling from the Supreme Court on the issue of the 14th Amendment challenge from Colorado, he is in a better position than ever before to take back the White House.
Nikki Haley’s Washington, D.C., win is “symbolic” indeed. Haley represents the Old Guard and a dying breed of establishment politicians who are repeatedly being forced to bend the knee to Trump’s reshaped America First Republican Party.
On Sunday, Haley won the support of the D.C. swamp, but Trump has won – and will continue to win – the support of millions of Americans in every state in the country.
