In an interview Friday, Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes addressed whether Twitter threatens the growing success of Truth Social.

Nunes, a former California congressman, made an appearance on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show and shared an update on Truth Social’s increasing popularity.

Nunes explained that Tesla CEO Elon Musk had 100 million followers on Twitter and probably “didn’t know any better” when he made the deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion.

Nunes told Travis and Sexton, “I view it this way. I think that maybe Elon Musk got into something first.” He added, “Once he started inspecting everything, it’s what I’ve known for a long time, which is that there’s just a lot of spam and bot accounts on Twitter.”

Currently, Twitter and Musk are locked in a legal battle surrounding Musk’s attempt to walk away from the deal to purchase the social media company. The social media company brought a lawsuit against Musk after the world’s richest man pulled out of the agreement, claiming that Twitter failed to disclose accurate information regarding fake accounts.

Nunes said that while he does not know how Musk’s legal battle with Twitter will end, the situation promises to provide “fireworks.”

While Truth Social has been perceived as a rival to Twitter, Nunes emphasized that the company’s toughest competition is not Twitter. “Our competition is not Twitter,” said Nunes. “Our competition is TikTok and Facebook and Instagram.”

Nunes explained that Twitter has “never been profitable in their whole existence.” Despite the company’s popularity under the Trump presidency, “There’s no way the company’s worth $44 billion,” he said.

Since the 45th president was banned on Twitter after Jan. 6, Twitter has continued to censor conservative thoughts and opinions. As a result, Twitter has lost a significant portion of its users.

Nunes emphasized this, saying, “If you look at the user engagement, I think it just continues to drop.”
