New York’s Socialist Democrat Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing a massive backlash after declaring a “budget crisis” just four months into his term.

On Tuesday, he claimed that the city needs more revenue after pushing for “free” taxpayer-funded programs. “New York City faces a budget crisis of a historic magnitude,” he declared, blaming previous leaders. He proposed a new budget structure that takes state funding for city operations. The budget deadline has been extended through May, with a promise that city services will not be disrupted for residents.

His remarks were destroyed by leaders who oppose expanding government overreach. New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino (19th Dist. Queens) blamed Mamdani for creating the deficit with his elaborate spending and noted his “insane budget request of $15 billion.”

“If we simply kept our spending to 2024-25 levels — already $107 billion dollars — we’d have no deficit. For context, that is equal to the budget for the entire state of Florida, and yet the incompetent children in charge of our budget somehow can’t make things work with that massive pile of money,” she added, concluding, “It’s a total lack of leadership and everyone involved with this travesty should be ashamed of themselves.

Rep. Mike Lee, R-Utah, wrote on X, “Socialists eventually run out of other people’s money.” He went on, “With Mamdani it happened fast.”

Throughout his short term, Mamdani failed to prevent homeless residents from freezing to death during the winter, created a taxpayer-funded LGBTQIA+ office, and is launching government-controlled grocery stores that are already being scrutinized for charging more than private grocers, per the Daily Signal.

Furthermore, despite declaring a “budget crisis” and claiming to have run out of funding, Mamdani recently declared that all World Cup FIFA events will be “free.” Just how these free events will be funded is uncertain.

To sum it up, the Blue Lives Matter organization responded to the “budget crisis” announcement by publicly declaring, “The socialist mayor is ALREADY begging New York leaders for a bailout. He’s also trying to buy more time by delaying the city’s budget.” The group concluded, “We warned you all about this guy.”
