President Donald Trump marked the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act during remarks in the Oval Office on Thursday, detailing his administration’s hard work to reinvigorate the system and protect American seniors.
The president was joined by Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano, whom Trump praised as an integral leader in rooting out problems at the administration.
“He’s running it like nobody ever dreamt possible,” Trump remarked.
The president vowed to make the Social Security Act of 1935 “stronger and bigger than ever,” and hearkened back to his campaign trail promise to “always protect Social Security” for American seniors.
Trump pointed out how dismal Social Security services were run during the Biden administration, from elevated wait call times to sluggish disability claim backlogs. “The longest ever in recorded history,” Trump said.
Under the Trump administration, the president listed the following accomplishments:
- Field office wait times are down 30 percent from last year and dropping steadily,
- Call wait times are down 73 percent and serving “twice as many customers per day,”
- Disability claims backlog is down 26 percent,
- 24/7 access to the Social Security website has been restored,
- Identified a shocking 12.4 million people listed on Social Security who were over 120 years old,
- Identified another 135,000 people receiving Social Security benefits who were over 160 years old,
- 275,000 illegal aliens have been removed from the Social Security,
- And, thanks to Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” taxes on Social Security income have been eliminated for seniors.
“Among my very first acts was to order all government employees to return to the office or be removed from the job,” Trump said during his remarks.
He said this order had restored full business hours, five days a week, at the Social Security Administration.
