President Trump’s goal to rebuild the domestic nuclear supply chain while increasing the country’s nuclear energy output is one step closer to being achieved as new projects are announced.
According to Breitbart, state-owned corporations in China, Europe, and Russia own almost 100 percent of the world’s uranium enrichment capacity, and this is what President Trump wants to change. President Trump hopes to rebuild the domestic supply chain by 2050, and the U.S. The Department of Energy has announced 11 projects that will do that.
On Tuesday, the U.S. The Department of Energy announced that it had officially kicked off President Trump’s Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program. The goal of the projects is to “construct, operate, and achieve criticality of at least three test reactors using the DOE authorization process by July 4, 2026.” This will help streamline nuclear reactor testing.
The reactor program, following President Trump’s Executive Order 14301, will assist selected companies, including Aalo Atomics Inc., Natura Resources LLC, and Valar Atomics Inc., in securing funding and expediting commercial licensing.
In a press release, Deputy Secretary of Energy James P. Danly said, “President Trump’s Reactor Pilot Program is a call to action,” and added, “These companies aim to all safely achieve criticality by Independence Day, and DOE will do everything we can to support their efforts.”
In addition, Breitbart reported that Congress has provided the Department of Energy with around $3 billion to initiate the production of U.S.-enriched uranium. It will be up to President Trump’s administration to decide how and who to allocate the 43 billion.
Already, President Trump’s vision for a stronger America is looking clearer as uranium stocks gained 5 percent this week, thanks to his goals of increasing nuclear power capacity to 400 gigawatts by 2050. This is much needed as the U.S. consumes around 29 percent of the world’s supply of uranium but only produces 700,000 pounds in 2024.
According to Breitbart, President Trump’s vision dates back to 2019, when his Department of Energy contracted a U.S. company to demonstrate an American centrifuge technology, and it worked. The announcement of the 11 projects is a step in the right direction for a stronger America.
