The Canadian police in Ottawa announced they will be tracking pro-freedom protesters for possible financial penalties and criminal charges to those participating in the peaceful Freedom Convoy.
During a press briefing Saturday, Ottawa’s interim Police Chief Steve Bell confirmed the police is attempting to identify individuals engaging in the protests in order to “follow up with financial sanctions and criminal charges.”
The police in Ottawa have received massive backlash after videos circulating on the internet showed police aggressively attempting to arrest protestors, going as far as using horses to clear the streets, which resulted in a woman getting trampled.
This follows Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to invoke the never-before-used powers of the Emergencies Act which permits the government to forcibly remove peaceful protesters.
Furthermore, the Ottawa police announced they would be removing children from parents actively participating in the protests. The announcement comes a week after they played with the possibility of bringing in a child protective service agency to take children from truckers.
Since January, thousands of Canadians on foot and in trucks have gathered in Parliament Hill in Ottawa, demanding that the government halts its Covid-19 vaccine mandates that require truckers coming from the United States to show proof of vaccination.
The Canadian convoy has inspired similar pro-freedom protests in countries with strict Covid mandates, including Australia and Austria.
Americans will soon embark on their own trucker convoy that will start next week in Barstow, California.
The “People’s Convoy” will head to Washington D.C. to demand an end to the government’s Covid-19 national emergency and restrictions.
