After Hunter Biden sued the Internal Revenue Service on Monday, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee posted a rebuttal calling Biden “a tax cheat who hasn’t paid his fair share.”
“In short, these are good people who did everything right to obtain whistleblower protection with the best interest of our country in mind. Meanwhile, Hunter Biden is a tax cheat who hasn’t paid his fair share – something that @POTUS lectures everyday Americans about,” the committee posted on X.
Biden sued the IRS for “unlawful disclosure” of his private tax information, pointing out the IRS whistleblowers who claimed that the Department of Justice had interfered with their tax probe into the president’s youngest son.
The 27-page lawsuit claims that Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, the IRS whistleblowers, have “targeted and sought to embarrass” Biden “via public statements to the media” disclosing “confidential information about a private citizen’s tax matters.”
It is alleged that the IRS violated the Privacy Act, allowing Biden to believe that the agency would be “committed to compliance with its legal obligations to safeguard and protect his personal information from unauthorized disclosure” as he “fully cooperated” with the investigation.
While the lawsuit points out Shapley and Ziegler, Biden is seeking damages of “$1,000 per each act of unauthorized disclosure” from the IRS directly.
The Oversight and Accountability Committee, however, found that while investigating Biden and his criminal history, they found a “corrosion of ethical standards and the abuse of power that threaten our nation.”
The committee pointed out that not only have they brought forth “serious allegations of politicization and misconduct by DOJ officials,” but they believe that the lawsuit is another “intimidation” move.
“Witness intimidation is just another dirty tactic by the Hunter Biden legal team. Despite their games, our investigation will continue,” the committee stated.
